Right from teens to adults checking on social media apps is becoming an act subconsciously. We pick up phone for work but most of the time we subconsciously surf whatsapp, fb, insta and many a times we don’t even realize that, suddenly after a few seconds past we realize, opps!!!! I took phone for work, what was it? I am sure you all can relate to it n have a big grin on face right now while u read this.
We are not just getting defocused distracted etc. but unknowingly building stress and an invitation to depression too.
Yes !!!!, what is it exactly doing to us ?
Each time you visit social media apps, its triggering your happy hormone (dopamine and oxytocin). It gives us a sense of appreciation, feel good factor, trust, etc. at an instant, and hence we can’t stop that endless scrolling. It is also giving us a lot of information in a short span, which may lead to brain atrophy (process of degeneration or slowing down).
This stress buster is actually a silent stressor or a depressant or making you a loner, think about it.
During the lock down phase and post lock down every next person has faced mental fatigue or brain fogging strongly, including me !!!!, saying its post covid syndrome, covid is affecting brain! could be , but we certainly can’t deny the usage of social media knowingly unknowingly had/ has gone high. Due to constantly postings and checking on them; its likes, expectations to get high likes, ‘just checking’ etc. has got us in to a mode of most commonly used word brain fogging these days. This to some it has lead to shelling in, talk to selective people, for some family time has gone down. Being with the phone has become more dear then spending time with family members.This is alarming and its time to take control over this.
We all even know what do we have to do but coming out of this comfort zone is becoming too much efforts for many. What do we do about this?
Simply trigger the happy hormones productively and, as we known:
* Make a list of fun things that gives you happiness and satisfaction.
* Limiting social media time, keep that dam mobile a side.
* Set timing to the ‘just checking’ syndrome, just checking attitude needs to be reduced.
* List things to do so that you know you have so many things to do, and fulfil them, this will help to trigger your happy hormones.
* Exercise.
* Engaging into sports activity.
If you need help to kick start with coming out of this comfort zone take help, don’t think you can manage . Yes its sad that many of us need to take help to stand up once again, friends, family members, colleagues or to some may be an experts help would be needed too. Its time to get that external boost to get us going and be self motivated once again.
So just do it.
